About Me

Ellen Ashfield Dip MCFHP MAFHP

Foot Health Practitioner

I’m passionate about helping people have healthy, comfortable feet.

I know that any pain in your feet can interfere with everyday tasks and living the life you want.

Our feet work hard for us and sometimes get neglected, but a little attention from time to time can do wonders. I know this can be hard as reaching and seeing your toes clearly becomes more difficult over time.

If you need a helping hand looking after your feet, don’t be embarrassed, I’d love to hear from you.

Your feet are in safe hands

Qualified with a diploma in foot health, I am a Member of the Open Collage of Foot Health Professionals and also a member of the Association of Foot Health Practitioners. I studied with the well renowned SMAE Institute which is accredited by the Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Upon my theory based completion of anatomy, physiology, with foot and nail pathology I attended clinic based learning with SMAE in Maidenhead, Berkshire, culminating in further clinical based assessments.
I am fully insured, first aid trained and DBS checked.

What's the difference: Foot Health Practitioner, Podiatrist and Chiropodist?

Foot Health Practitioner (FHP)

A qualified Foot Health Practitioner is trained to assess and treat common everyday foot problems. From trimming nails correctly to removing callus and corns and making pads to deflect pressure from sores. FHP's monitor foot conditions such as neuropathy and circulation insufficiency and orgainse referrals to GP's and podiatrists as appropriate. Many FHP's are domicilary, meaning they travel to patients rather than patients visiting a clinic. For minimally invasive, routine care, and FHP is exactly what you're looking for.

Chiropodist

The tital 'Chiropodist' is the traditional term for foot care professional. In 1993 the UK switched from using 'Chiropodist' to 'Podiatrist' to bring the country inline with international terminology.

Podiatrist

A podiatrist will have a Degree or Masters in podiatry. They offer a full range of care for the lower leg, ankle and the foot. While an FHP can help with everyday concerns, a podiatrist specialises in biomechanics, gate analysis, surgery, orthotics and treatment of ulcers in addition to more common conditions. They are also licensed to perscribe medications. Most podiatrist work in a clinic rather than traveling to patients.
